How to Stay Awake at Work or at School
Have you ever been in a class where the professor just drones on and on. How about being at work on a monotonous night job like guarding a building? What both of these situations have in common is that they are boring and may very easily lull you to sleep. On the other hand they are both important and require you to stay awake. If you find your self nodding off you may be looking for a solution for how to stay awake at work or school.
There are a few standard methods that people employ in order to stay awake or alert. The most tried and true approach is to drink a caffeinated beverage. The drink of choice is generally coffee but some people opt for tea or hot chocolate. For your information, percolated coffee has the highest caffeine content while hot chocolate has the lowest. If you prefer a cold beverage, cola, either diet or regular has enough caffeine to give you a boost. Relatively new on the caffeinated beverage list are energy drinks. They have high levels of sugar and caffeine that is sure to give you a jolt and keep you awake. Beware of the calories if you are watching your weight. The same holds true for sugar colas and gourmet coffees with creams and flavorings. If you are watching calories make sure to check the calorie count. You may be shocked at how many calories your beverage contains.
The problem that some people have with these beverages is that they have an adverse reaction to the ingredients. Some people can not have sugar and others don’t respond well to caffeine. It is for this reason, those people might want to try a mechanical device to wake them up if they start to nod off in class or at work. Such a gadget is called a nap zapper or nap alarm. The good ones are small and sit behind your ear like a Bluetooth device. They ring or vibrate if your head tilts forward and the sound wakes you up like an alarm clock.
The most important factor in staying awake is obviously getting enough sleep. Try to determine the minimum hours of sleep you need a night to stay alert the next day and make sure you get that number of hours of sleep each night. On the occasions that you are not able to get in enough zzzs, one of the methods above should do the trick to keep you awake when you need to be alert.
